CSV Translate Overview

qlot translates the text cells in your CSV while leaving numbers, dates, codes, URLs, emails, and formulas exactly as they were. The file comes back as a CSV with the same delimiter, quoting, line endings, and encoding, so it opens in the same tool the export came from.

Each text cell is translated in the context of the whole file, and a multi-line cell is translated line by line and rejoined. Columns that hold no text, such as prices or identifiers, are skipped entirely, and the header row is translated with the same per-cell rules as the rows below it.

Built for product catalogues, store listings, contact and CRM exports, survey results, and app or game strings that travel between spreadsheets and systems as plain text. When the target language cannot be written in the file's original encoding, the CSV is delivered as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark so it still opens correctly in Excel.

What stays intact

Numbers, dates, and codesCells that hold a number, date, boolean, URL, email, identifier, or formula are recognised as data and copied through verbatim, leading zeros and long digit strings included.
Delimiter and quotingThe delimiter is detected from the file itself, and the quoting style, line endings, trailing newline, and any Excel sep= line are reproduced in the delivered file.
Encoding and byte-order markThe file's encoding is detected and mirrored, BOM included; when the target language cannot be written in it, the file is delivered as UTF-8 with a BOM instead.
Header rowColumn headings are translated with the same per-cell rules as the rows below, so a heading that is a code or a number stays as it is.
Multi-line and marked cellsA cell with several lines is translated line by line and rejoined; a leading marker such as "- " or "1. " is kept and only the text after it is translated.
Columns without textA column whose body is almost entirely numbers or codes is left out of translation altogether, so nothing in it can change.
Unreadable or empty filesA file whose encoding cannot be detected, whose delimiter is ambiguous, or that holds no text in the source language is declined before any charge; very large files with millions of cells are declined too.

01Will the translated file still open in my spreadsheet or import tool?

Yes. The delivered CSV keeps the delimiter, quoting, line endings, and encoding of the upload, and every non-text cell is copied through unchanged, so column positions and data types are exactly as exported.

If the target language cannot be written in the original encoding, the file is delivered as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, which Excel and most import tools read correctly.

02Does qlot change numbers, dates, or product codes?

No. A cell that holds a number, date, boolean, URL, email, identifier, or formula is recognised as data and reproduced verbatim, leading zeros included. Only cells that contain text in the source language are translated.

03Is the header row translated?

Yes. Column headings are translated with the same per-cell rules as the rest of the file, so a heading that is a code stays a code while a descriptive heading is translated.

04Which CSV files are declined?

Files whose encoding cannot be detected, whose delimiter cannot be determined, or that contain no text in the source language are declined before any charge, as are files with millions of cells. If the translation comes back largely unchanged, the task fails and nothing is charged.

05How is a CSV translation billed, and which languages are available?

Credits are measured on the text that is actually translated, the same way as a spreadsheet, so a file that is mostly numbers costs little. More than 200 source and target languages are available; the selectors show what you can choose.
