Markdown translation overview
From project READMEs and changelogs to documentation, knowledge-base notes, and blog posts, qlot translates each .md file as a separate document while preserving code and document structure. Choose from more than 200 source and target languages, translate into several languages at once, and use a glossary for your terminology.
Headings, paragraphs, table cells, footnote text, link text, and image alt text are translated, along with text between inline HTML tags. Code and link addresses stay as written, as do front matter and HTML blocks. Bold, italics, strikethrough, and links remain Markdown around the translated words.
When a translation cannot preserve a passage's Markdown, qlot keeps that passage in the source language to protect the document. All target languages of one upload share one job. If this affects more than 2% of the file's passages in any target language, the whole job fails with no charge for any language. Within the limit, a completed job is charged its full quoted price, including passages left in the source language.

Frequently asked questions

Need more help?
Contact us01Will translating my README preserve its code, links, and formatting?
Code blocks and inline code stay exactly as written. Headings, lists, quotes, and tables keep their structure, and bold, italics, strikethrough, and links remain Markdown around the translated words. Link text and image alt text are translated, while link and image addresses and link titles stay unchanged.
Links to headings inside the document are not rewritten. Translated headings get new anchors, so check and update links to those headings before publishing.
02Can I translate Markdown for GitHub and documentation sites?
qlot handles CommonMark plus tables, strikethrough, task lists, and footnotes, and recognizes GitHub alerts and Obsidian callouts. It preserves the syntax of Docusaurus and VitePress containers, MkDocs admonitions and tabs, Hugo shortcodes, Jekyll/Liquid tags, and Obsidian wiki links and embeds.
Front matter in YAML, TOML, or JSON stays unchanged, including its values. Wiki links and embeds are preserved in full, including their display text.
03Which parts of a Markdown file are not translated?
Code, link and image addresses, link titles, front matter, HTML blocks and comments, and link definitions stay unchanged. Footnote markers and definition labels stay as written, while footnote text is translated. Templates, shortcodes, math, emoji shortcodes, tags, and wiki links and embeds also stay unchanged, as do lines with no words, such as badge rows. These preserved elements are not billed.
If a translated passage cannot keep its Markdown intact, the original passage is retained. All target languages of one upload run as one job. If more than 2% of the file's passages require this fallback in any target language, the whole job fails and nothing is charged for any language. If the job completes within the limit, the full quoted price is charged, including passages left in the source language.
04How is Markdown translation billed, and which languages can I choose?
Credits are calculated from the text selected for translation, including link text and image alt text. Code, link and image addresses, link titles, markup, and front matter are excluded. A completed job within the 2% safeguard limit is charged its full quoted price, including passages left in the source language. The pricing page's credit guide can measure your file before translation.
More than 200 source and target languages are available, and one file can be translated into several target languages at once. Glossaries also apply to Markdown translation.
05Can I translate a Markdown file on the Preview plan?
Markdown translation requires a paid plan. The Preview plan does not support Markdown because previews are page images, and a Markdown file has no pages.
