TXT translation overview
A TXT file can hold a meeting transcript, a manuscript, release notes, or text exported from another tool. qlot translates each file as its own document while preserving paragraphs and blank lines. Choose your source and target languages, and apply a glossary when you need specific terminology.
Files without hard wrapping are translated line for line. If an editor has split paragraphs into lines at a fixed width, qlot detects that hard wrapping and translates the text as continuous passages. List markers and quote prefixes stay in place while the text after them is translated.
The delivered TXT keeps the original encoding and byte-order mark when the translated text can be written in that encoding. Otherwise, a legacy-encoded file is delivered as UTF-8; when the original used a Windows code page, the fallback includes a byte-order mark for Notepad and Excel.
Selective text translation
Lines recognized as numbers, dates, URLs, email addresses, code-like identifiers, or separators stay unchanged and do not use credits.
Paragraphs stay intact
Paragraphs and blank lines are retained, and detected hard-wrapped paragraphs are translated as continuous passages.
More language choices
Choose from more than 200 source and target languages and translate one TXT file into several target languages at once.
Upload plain text

Translation in minutes
A typical TXT file is translated in minutes, depending on its length and the language pair.
Encoding handled automatically
qlot detects the encoding and preserves it where possible, using UTF-8 when a legacy code page cannot represent the translated text.

Need more help?
Contact us01Will my translated TXT file keep its line breaks and encoding?
Paragraphs, blank lines and the final newline are preserved. Files without hard wrapping stay line for line and keep their line endings. Fixed-width paragraphs are treated as continuous passages, so the number of lines and mid-sentence line-break positions can change.
The original encoding and byte-order mark are retained when possible. If the translation cannot be written in the original legacy code page, the file is delivered as UTF-8, with a byte-order mark when the original used a Windows code page.
02How does qlot translate text wrapped at a fixed width?
qlot detects text that an editor has split into fixed-width lines and translates it in continuous passages rather than separate line fragments. Rewrapping can change line counts and mid-sentence line-break positions. Files without hard wrapping are translated line for line.
03Which TXT files are declined?
Empty files, files over 12MB or 1 million lines, binary data, and files whose encoding cannot be detected are declined before any charge. The same applies to files with no translatable text or text that does not appear to match the selected source language.
If a task fails because its translation comes back largely unchanged, nothing is charged.
04How is TXT translation billed, and which languages can I choose?
Credits are measured on the text selected for translation. Lines skipped by the translation rules do not count, so a file that is mostly numbers or separators costs little; the pricing page’s credit guide can measure your file before translation.
More than 200 source and target languages are available, and one file can be translated into several target languages at once. Glossaries also apply to TXT translation.
05Can I translate a TXT file on the Preview plan?
TXT translation requires a paid plan. The Preview plan does not support TXT because previews are page images, and a plain text file has no pages.
